Could this be the end of the Nespresso® pod era?
Did you enjoy your Nespresso® today?
If you’re like most Nespresso® customers, you probably have a love/hate affair with your machine.
You love the size, consistency, convenience, and lack of mess. It’s just so easy. You can pull a quick shot of espresso on the way out the door without grinding, tamping, futzing and cleaning up.
But then again, they are not cheap!
You’re paying well over the odds for the desirability and ‘Clooney’ factor.
Despite this, Nespresso® has seen incredible growth throughout the world. Jon Cox, an analyst at Kepler Capital Markets in Zurich, estimates that Nespresso’s® 2013 worldwide sales were $4.3 billion!
Nespresso® machines can also be found in the kitchens of around 30% of the world’s 2,400 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is due to the fact that they’re consistent, cheaper than hiring a barista, and take up less space than a traditional espresso machine.
Despite their phenomenal success, the end of the ‘Nespresso® Era’ could be upon us.
You see, the reason for the meteoric rise of Nespresso® was its monopoly. Nespresso® used to claim that only their own pods should be used with its coffee machines. However, as it turns out, that’s not quite true.
The French anti-trust watchdog has cracked down on Nestle (which owns Nespresso®) saying in a statement: “It appears that Nespresso® may have abused its dominant position by tying the purchase of its capsules to that of its coffee machines, with no fair justification, de facto ousting rival capsule makers.”
As a result of the French settlement, Nespresso® have been forced to extend the guarantee on its single-serving coffee machines to customers who use pods other than its own branded ones.
This has paved the way for niche capsule makers to produce high quality coffee in pods that are compatible with Nespresso® machines for a significantly reduced price.
Once such niche brand is Must Espresso, an Italian company started by a group of friends in the Marche Region in Italy that have been serving the beach side coffee bars and local restaurants for many years.
They began by sourcing the highest quality coffee beans and then using traditional roasting techniques to create a wonderful diverse selection of fine coffee blends all with an authentic Italian taste that’s unlike any other coffee capsule on the market.
Today, their company “Must Espresso Italiano” has grown to become Europe’s fastest growing coffee capsule company selling delicious Artisan Roasted coffee in Nespresso® Compatible Capsules in over 30 countries around the world including Australia and New Zealand.
Starting with independently sourced premium quality raw coffee their Artisan roasters then carefully blend and roast using a secret roasting process with unique toasting cycles that combine time and temperature to enhance the peculiarities of each blend.
